Clarkston Baptist Church

Church History

Brief history

Clarkston Baptist Church was founded in 1937 by William Kater. Early services were held in Mr and Mrs Kater's home. As numbers increased, services were held in hired halls - Arundel Hall (which later became the site of the police station), Mayfield Hall, the Old Scout Hall, the New Scout Hall, and Stamperland Institute.

The church became affiliated with the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches in 1942.

We moved into our own building in Arthur Street, Clarkston, in 1955, a wooden Church Hall that was opened on 4th June. This was an answer to much prayer and was a great adventure in faith. Later when the plot of adjoining land became available, this was negotiated for, trusting that God would provide the purchase money. This site came into the Church's possession in November 1956 and is the site of our present building which was opened on 10th January 1970.
